Frequently Asked Questions
| What makes your school unique?
We are small (currently 44 students), multi-graded classrooms (PreK/K, 1st/2nd, 3rd/4th, and 5th/6th), with a low student to teacher ratio (currently 11:1). We are known for: an intimate learning environment, high academic and behavior standards, small multi-graded classrooms, high level of parent support with many enrichment opportunities, i.e. field trips, technology integration, language programs (French, with introductions to Mandarin Chinese and Spanish), and the development of the whole child. Our motto is "A Small School Makes a Big Difference." |

I would like to find out more about your school, how do I do this? There are many ways to learn more about our school but a good start is to come visit us and take a tour. Please call Suzanne Ivans, the Chief School Administrator, at 609 397-2012 to make arrangements for a visit. In addition to a tour, we offer literature about our school, extended visit time to observe our teachers, and parent references. |
|
Can anyone come to your school as a Choice Student? All New Jersey residents who live within 20 miles of our site are eligible to apply, provided we have room and a program in place. Registration is open for the 2012-2013 up until November 15, 2011. It is important to note that an application does not mean acceptance into a program. Visit the above NJ Interdistrict link to find out more information or call the school at 609 397-2012 to find out more about the process. |
| Does your district provide
transportation?
No. Provided you live within 20 miles of the school, your sending district is required to either provide transportation for your child or give you "aid in lieu" money (about $880 per student, given at the end of the school year) in return for you providing transportation. |
| Does the district provide before/after
school care?
We currently do not have any programs in place due to our small size. We do offer after school enrichment several days a week. Parents who work outside of the home often share student pick up or drop off with other parents or child care providers. We are happy to provide references for these resources. |
| Where do your students go after sixth
grade?
We are a PreK-Sixth grade elementary school. Our students go to South Hunterdon Regional High School for grades 7-12. Like us, they are also a choice school. Click here to find out more about SHRHS. |
| Do I have to send my child to his/her
sending district for a minimum of one year before I can send a child to a
Choice School?
No. The "one year rule" does not apply to incoming Kindergarten students. Students from non-public schools may apply, but their applications are processed after all public school student applications have been processed. They are known as "tier two" applicants - see timeline above. |
| How do I apply? (Grades
1-6) Step One For students who are currently enrolled
in public schools: fill out the top portion Notice of Intent to Participate in the School Choice Program Step Two Shop around for possible placements. If you are interested in our school we encourage you to take a tour and learn more before you complete the Student Application to choice district Send this to us WITH the completed Notice of Intent form on or before December 1, 2011. Step Three We review all completed application, schedule screening, and see if we have room and a program in place, should your child have special needs. If we do, we will notify you between December 15, 2011 and January 4, 2012. Once you have been notified of Conditional Acceptance, complete the Enrollment Form: Student's Notice of Intent to Enroll in the choice district form and return to our school by January 15, 2012. Additional forms and information will then be sent to you to formally enroll your child. |
| How do I apply for
my Kindergarten Student or for a student who does not currently go
to a public school?
Follow all the steps above. However, note that the first form - Notice of Intent to Participate in the School Choice Program Tier Two notifications will come after Tier One notifications.
See top of this page for this schedule.

| Will Stockton Borough School continue
to take private tuition students?
Yes, but only students who are Pre-Kindergarten students (4 year olds) or K-6 grade students who live in PA, provided we have room in our program. (New Jersey applicants are given priority.) If there are more requests than space, a lottery will be held to determine initial enrollment. To learn more about our private tuition program, please go to our web page by clicking here. |
